For my senior capstone, I decided to create a card game. I worked on this project during covid, when it was easy to get stuck inside and feel bored and uninterested in my surroundings. This game was my effort to combat those feelings, to encourage myself and others to see beauty everywhere, even in the little things.
Curious Year takes the form of a deck of playful task cards. Each card contains a unique prompt that encourages the user to engage with their surroundings and seek out moments of joy and beauty in their daily lives, and a new card is drawn each week for a year. There is a specific color way for each of the four seasons, and space on each card to reflect on its impact.
I knew I wanted the deck to feel playful and engaging, so I decided to use isometric styling and a bright and catchy color palette.
I enjoyed working in the isometric style, and it was very fun thinking of prompts that were both engaging and achievable. I created a few sample cards for each season of the year to represent each color palette, and mocked them up. In the future I would love to complete the deck and make Curious Year a reality! You can see some of the mockups below, and I've embedded the case study or you can view it here.
