Hi there!
This app helps solve the confusion around recycling; specifically, the little numbers stamped onto most plastics and a handful of other commonly misplaced items. Recycling is one of the easiest actions we can take in order to help preserve the environment. Unfortunately, it’s often too confusing for us to go to the effort. This app is designed to solve that problem by addressing a specific area of confusion, and doing so in a quick, easy to navigate format. The only required information is a zip code, since rules vary by location. After that, it takes just a few seconds to determine if a numbered item is recyclable! With welcoming colors and straightforward navigation, the app is engaging and appropriate for all users. Now, without having to scroll through pages of information, you can confidently make a difference that matters.

Form & Function
In creating this app I had to balance style with functionality. The primary goal of the app is to allow users to go in and out as quickly as possible, which helped me choose large, central buttons and consolidated information (with extra information available for interested users). The most important information, the answer, is the first thing a user will read. These choices helped with efficiency.
I included playful colors, graphics, and patterns that are welcoming and fitting with the brand, but that did not interfere with usability. At the end of the day I would be thrilled if users can speed through my app so quickly and comfortably that they don’t even notice the fun graphics right away.
Check it out!
The interactive prototype is embedded to the right. Give it a try! You can navigate through the various screens, and maybe even learn something! If you’d rather watch me click through it, you can take a look at the video included above (but it doesn't show everything- try the prototype to get the full experience). Also, check out the animated launch screen! I think it really brings the app to life. If you want to see a detailed breakdown of my entire design process, please visit my case study.
